Kate Hartman is an artist, technologist, and educator whose work spans the fields of physical computing, wearable electronics, and conceptual art. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Hartman is based in Toronto at OCAD University where she is the Associate Professor of Wearable and Mobile Technology in the Digital Futures program. Hartman enjoys bicycles, rock climbing, and someday hopes to work in Antarctica.

Best Book for Makers Everywhere. Buy it!

This is a wonderful text and written by a girl geek in plain English. Whooot Whooot. Very clear pics and several web sources to visit for more info are included. I subscribe to MAKE magazine and pre-ordered the print (not kindle) version when I saw that it would soon be available. Didn't disappoint me. Love it Love it Love it. It's an easy read. If you know almost nothing of electronics you can figure out what she's saying (I'm an engineer...but you don't have to be one)... and with very little investment you too can become a "maker" -- if you want to see what's out there, visit a Maker Faire -- they are held in Michigan (Ann Arbor, Detroit), the West Coast, Atlanta...all over. And check out instructables online too -- you'll find many examples of embedded electronics in clothing. This book is probably the best "How-To" I've ever read. Get it, and you won't be disappointed. I promise.

Do NOT purchase Kindle version

Overall, this is a pretty good book. However, I bought the Kindle version, and that was a mistake. The tables are all messed up and unreadable. They also are all over the page, and they seem to jam up the book, so you can't turn the pages.

From reading the text, it is a great book, but it should not be sold as a Kindle if the Kindle reader can't display the material.

      This book is for a professional and not for a lay person. You need to be either a veterinarian or a physician to understand it so don't buy it if you are not. I am a physician who is board certified in internal medicine. I bought it out of interest and found it similar to human internal medicine texts.

      I bought this for myself as a gift. Congratulations for completing your first surgery! It is amazing. I have seen many veterinarians out in practice with this on their shelves, or more frequently, on the table beside them as they carefully work through a complicated case. It is the only book recommended by every professor in practically every class.

      After 28 years I still consult the same Castellan

      I bought his Physical Chemistry 2nd Edition book in December 1973. Everytime I need some insight to a dificult concept I read this book. His part in thermodynamics in unsurpassed, for I have not found such a clear explanation and derivation of the Second Law as his. The same goes for the Structure of Gases and Quantum Mechanical principles.
      This book is a treasure. Some time ago I changed the original soft cover to hard, and lined it with brown leather and golden letters.

      Great P-Chem text- way better than Atkins

      For most students, P-Chem is one of the most challenging courses in the chem curriculum. I was no exception. In undergrad, I had a weekly standing appointment with my P-Chem 2 prof. The text we used was terrible, in my opinion (Atkins and dePaula). Towards the end of that course, I discovered this text by Castellan. Encouraged by positive reviews, I gave it a shot. It really made a difference- the clear explanations, the mathematical interludes etc. I was also able to use it for my graduate Chemical Kinetics course. Not only was it clearer, but it was far more comprehensive than Atkins. I think this just might be one of the best P-Chem texts out there. Highly, highly recommended.

      In my opinion this book remains one the best written on the field.In fact, it deals with the important topics in an elegant way. The first part is dedicated to the basic termodinamical concepts. This part just needs a little mathematical background but i must say in some ocasions it can become boring (just a little). Once you have red this part wich deals comes (in the middle of the book) the introduction of quantum mechanics. I feel the autor has reached his purprose of telling you the essential without complicating things. To my mind,really well done!!. just say i don't find enough information about group theory ( it is necesary to know a lot of it when you have reached an intermidiate-advanced level in quantum mechanics), but this must be forgiven for the book is intended for undergraduate students essentially.

      About the Author

      Graeme Ruxton obtained a first degree in Physics before getting a PhD in Statistics and Modelling Science. After his PhD he worked for several years with the Scottish Agricultural Statistical Service in Edinburgh. He then got a lectureship in Ecology at the University of Glasgow, where he is now Professor of Theoretical Ecology.

      Nick Colegrave trained as an evolutionary biologist, obtaining his first degree at the University of Sussex, and his PhD on the evolution of competition strategies at the University of Sheffield. Since then he has held a number of postdoctoral research positions at a range of universities including, McGill, St Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh, working on various aspects of evolutionary biology, with a range of organisms. At various points he has also held the post of zoology demonstrator at the University of Edinburgh, teaching experimental design to zoology students and advising on statistics. He is now lecturer in Biology at Edinburgh.

      Great book for a necessary but boring subject

      I don't like reading about experimental design, but as a biology grad student and also as a high school science teacher I need to constantly. This book takes a boring subject and presents it in a readable fashion without having to nap or purposely look for distractions. It also has the added benefit of having a chimp on the cover which just adds to its value as a conversation piece. It has an entire chapter on ethics, which is great considering most science books just mention ethics in passing. I would recommend this book to anyone helping students design science fair projects, or to those who forgot how hard it was to come up with their research topics and studies in college.

      On Point - In Depth Coverage

      JavaScript Domain-Driven Design

      It was refreshing to read a new updated title on JavaScript, and this book didn't disappoint. I ABSOLUTELY love the theme of the book, using Orcs was a highlight and spoke to my geeky heart. Sadly, you won't be building a robust prison game; however after you're finished reading this book you may just finish off the prison with your own style and flare. I really appreciated the inclusion of API's and how to manage one, far too often I see library's that grown in size yet the documentation lacks, so starting with good principles is perfectly acceptable to me. Favorite portions include, 'Not so scary UML', and 'Paper programming'. They are both equally important in approaching non-coders to discuss what the application at hand should do and how it should perform actions. By the end of the book you'll have come to the conclusion of an excellent journey, one that will have taught you a lot about Domain-Driven Design in a non boring manner.

      Can't read on kindle, poor formatting, padded content

      Warning! This Kilndle book can not be read on a kindle. A kindle FIRE, yes, your kindle APP, sure, an actual kindle like a paperwhite or standard kindle, nope. If you look very closely at the ad for this book you will find all this information there after clicking a couple links but if you are like me and just assume that a kindle book is readable on any kindle you will be very disappointed. Amazon will also do nothing but say they are sorry over and over again.

      On another note, probably because of the non-comparable format, many of he images are poor and the text is not well formatted and hard to read. Even when read on an iPad the formatting is terrible. The content has a lot of padding in the front of the book that has nothing to do wit the idea of repairing the devices but might Ben interesting if you wanted a history lesson.

      This book is great!

      It is thorough and comprehensive, covering the latest research on gender differences across numerous domains, including physical/mental health, relationships, communication, and the workplace. It considers the theoretical explanations surrounding the psychology of gender while still successfully evaluating the extant empirical literature. Helgeson has done an excellent job of updating this edition. She is also careful to acknowledge the intersection of gender with factors like age, race, and sexual orientation. The "do gender" exercises in the book also make for excellent small group projects for students.

      eBook terrible!

      The eBook edition is awful! It is poorly edited and formatted. It is the worst eTextook I have ever used. I hope the hard copy is better! There are no built in flash cards. There is no section at the bottom of the screen where you can see where you are in a chapter and advance ahead that way. This eBook is like someone just typed a PDF version of the book and provided zero interactive or study features common to digital textbooks. I am sorry I purchased it.
