A real-life financial thriller

A fascinating analysis of fourteen true accounting fraud cases, loaded with juicy details, and a well-researched discussion of the aftereffects on the accounting profession, from both standards and regulatory perspectives. Besides being an interesting read, I also derived substantial professional benefit from learnings related to management culture, internal controls and SOx. This book stimulated some further thoughts about the implications of fraud on the future of accounting practices in the US.

didn't meet my expectations

I read a few books on accounting fraud and this book didn't meet my expectations. I am a CPA and was looking for a more technical and advanced book, which would describe various fraud schemes in detail. This book doesn't contain any cases that I have not heard about before and has not taught me anything new. It may be a good book for someone who is new to accounting and/or just starting to learn about fraudulent companies.

INDISPENSABLE

Even if you are only slightly interested in Alfred Hitchcock you will find this book enjoyable reading just for the sheer variety of material culled from a 50+ year career. For students of Hitchcock's films this volume is quite indispensable, particularly the HITCHCOCK AT WORK section which includes a 22-page transcription of the director talking with his production manager about shooting STAGE FRIGHT and going over all the logistics of the film even before the screenplay was written. Unfortunately no excerpts from this are presented in Amazon's rather generous selection of preview pages, but have a look at Hitchcock's earliest writings in the preview to see the value of this volume, especially the short "Titles--Artistic and Otherwise" (p 71) or "How a Talking Film is Made" (p.73). The paperback edition I have is printed on sturdy, recycled paper and the binding looks like it will stand up to years of use--which is likely as this is really an indispensable reference book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A MUST READ for your Spiritual Journey!

My spiritual journey has taken me to many houses of worship, to countless bookstores, to thousands of hours of reading, to purchases at new age shops, to expensive sessions with mediums, to meditation and of course to the worldwide web. I have struggled through Jane Roberts' 'Seth' books, studied 'A Course in Miracles' aligned my chakras and tried to be a sponge and soak up all I could learn.

Yesterday my friend Susan, posted on Facebook about the release of this book 'The Afterlife of Billy Fingers'. I immediately purchased and downloaded it on my Kindle. I followed Billy's journey, thanks to Annie and Billy. I cried and I laughed and I learned a lot, through their journey. This morning when the book ended, I needed MORE! I want to thank the powers that be for the permission they must have given to help Billy be able to tell his story, and also for Annie to be able to hear it.

I wish I had read this book years ago or something like it. The beauty and simplicity and wonder touched my soul unlike all the other books I have ever read before. Trust me when I tell you, I have been reading 2 to 3 books a week since 5th grade and I will be 59 years old this coming Friday.I guess you can say I know what I like when it comes to books. This one was a life changer. If your search brought you here, it was for a very good reason. READ THIS BOOK!

An Exhilarating Experience

Billy Fingers takes us on a jaw-dropping journey through realms I couldn't have imagined and find it hard to believe anyone could make up. This is from a born skeptic. I don't know whether to credit Annie Kagan or Billy Fingers with the spectacular rendering of experiences that must have been very hard to put into words, let alone such consistently dazzling prose. Early on, I let go of whether I believed it and just floated along on the wild and moving ride. The message I took away is that life is an adventure we're meant to have no matter what twists and turns it takes. Thanks to Billy we can now imagine the spiritual universe beyond our spec of a planet and the confines of a mortal body. It's a book I recommend highly and will return to when I find myself thinking small.

Comparing to my NDE.

While the story of the dialogue was very touching, I read it with an open mind but not so open that I was gullible. I had an NDE experience 2 years ago. There were many similarities in this book which I also experienced. While if you read the book and think you are going to find a religious dogma;:ie Pearly gates etc. you are going to be disappointed. However if you are seeking a peek into what it's like in the afterlife? This will give you a taste from one viewpoint. As I tell people today that ask me what my NDE was like I simply tell them that what I experienced may not be what you experience. And for those that have said to me that I was just hallucinating from all the drugs the doctors had me on. I reply to them the drugs that they pumped into me happened truly occurred. But the 25+ minutes my heart stopped and after 3 attempts finally reviving me. I experienced something that has halted my fear of death and enables to me to say to anyone....we have a wonderful afterlife awaiting us. Namaste*

Some serious yummy grilling recipes! I had no idea you could grill tofu! So good!

This book has some fantastically, easy, yummy grilling recipes! Being a vegetarian, I love that it has a whole section devoted to it! Also I had no idea you could even grill tofu so I loved that and trying out some of the super yummy recipes here! I love tofu but rarely cook it up because I'm not sure how to do it! This has so many amazing, yummy, unique cooking recipe ideas for using Tofu! I couldve bought this cook book a long time ago and saved myself a lot of hassle for trying to figure out vegetarian cooking!

I've tried a few different vegetarian recipes from this cookbook and they are all amazing! My favorite is the grilled lime and cilantro tofu! So Yummy!

The recipes are also very easy and don't call for a lot of time either. Pretty much the time it takes to cook the food on the grill with a tiny little bit of prep work!

This book is like the top of Samantha Michaels' best BBQ recipes that contains the author’s best 55 recipes for vegetarians but also has included 85 recipes for non-vegetarians, so everyone at home can enjoy a great barbecue/grill meal.

It is said to contain healthy recipes on which I have to concourse as you can find, from Chapter 1st to Chapter 4th, several Beef recipes, Chicken Recipes, Pork Recipes, Lamb Recipes, Fish BBQ recipes and BBQ Shellfish Recipes. Also, there are several healthy dessert recipes for the barbecue.

From Chapter 5th until Chapter 7th, you can find 55 healthy vegetarian recipes including several vegetables, tofu and other types of cheese. Enough recipes for everyone at home.

As in any other cooking book, there will be recipes that you will love to try and repeat, but also you will find recipes that you won’t consider to do. Actually, that is quite normal as a recipe book also deals with every single person and its own unique way to live his/her healthy way of eating. Even though that, you will be delighted with this book as much as we had.

Great variety of easy recipes for the grill

The cookbook is well organized with easy to follow instructions. Although there's a well balanced variety of grilling recipes, I especially like the chapters on fish and seafood. Some tantalizing color illustrations are included - I wish there were more! The grams and milliliters in the recipes are a minor aggravation - I didn't expect to have to do conversions since the book was manufactured in the U.S. However, that's not going to stop me from trying more of the recipes once the weather warms up!

Much more advice than blacksmithing.

While this is not a bad read at ALL for the would be prepped, it contains little about blacksmithing, projects, instructions or much in the way of ideas. It was however well written and instructive on other areas of the prepped life and some great survival theory or I would not have given it the score I did. Don't buy this looking for much in the way of blacksmithing advice in any way, but it was definitely worth $1.99 just as an enjoyable read for someone who wants to think about potential futures.

In this respect, the humble advice offered by the holy men of the LITTLE RUSSIAN PHILOKALIA series may render an inestimable service to a true seeker of salvation--a follower of Christ's narrow path of unceasing toil and humility. This, after all, was the primary purpose of the original Philokalia.

One of the most beloved Orthodox saints of recent times--St. Seraphim of Sarov (1759-1833)--was a priest, hermit and spiritual guide who, in early 19th century Russia, led many souls along the path of Apostolic Christianity.

The first volume of the LITTLE RUSSIAN PHILOKALIA series contains the Life of St. Seraphim, his "Spiritual Instructions to Laymen and Monks," his soul-saving conversation with Nicholas Motovilov "On the Acquisition of the Holy Spirit" (St. Seraphim's patristic teaching--equal to the ancient Church Fathers)--and his "Diveyevo Mystery"--which, until now, has never been revealed in the English language since its disclosure in 1902.

Great introduction to one of Russia's most beloved spiritual masters. Contains an good introduction by Fr. Seraphim Rose, the famous dialogue with Motovilov about the acquisition of the Holy Spirit, spiritual cousels of St. Seraphim, the Diveyevo mystery and more.

A Great Spiritual Resource

As a Christian I value great spiritual reading and am especially interested in the lives of those of the past and how they infused spirituality into their daily living. My library contains many individual books on the lives of various saints and I also have the complete set of "The Lives of the Saints" which I find a great reference. The most inspiring by far, however, are the entire Philokalia series. My personal favorite is this subject book, "Little Russian Philokalia: St. Seraphim of Sarov" as he is a saint to whom I've special devotion.

This first volume in the set of 6 (I sincerely hope that there will be more to come) is, in my opinion, essential reading for every Christian.

We in the USA need to unlearn everything that we were told about "the big, bad, Red Russians"... This set is a good start in introducing westerners to the amazing and profound depth of Russian spiritualism!

Of minimal value

Now I know why you don't get to see a sample page or two, because you would be able to see if it fits your needs. I'm not returning the item as there are two or three pages of material that I have found useful - three out of fifty is just 6%. I should have taken the advise of other reviewers but as a new nursing student I was desperate for a guide in writing nursing notes.

Little Guide

I just received this guide and was surprised at how little it is. The size is about 4.25"x7" and it only has 50 pages (double-sided... which means it only has about 25 papers in here). However, that being said, I do really like the nursing notes examples and think it will be a great resource. I deducted a star because I don't think the size and amount of info. is aligned with the price... it should not be this expensive.

I would recommend this book for any nurse, but new grads will really benefit. I am a returning nurse and had forgotten how to communicate effectively, it's a language that I had forgotten. Very useful book. Even with computer charting, helps with the DAR notes and Clinical Notes.

This was required for my Library Research Skills class at Montana State University, and is a really useful resource. Badke's writing is concise, non-trite, and his suggestions are intuitively applicable. He also includes some welcome wit to a sometimes dry subject. New editions are updated to include recent changes to everything research and web-oriented. Great book!!!

I teach information literacy to students at a community college. I've been using this book as my class text for a few semesters. I like it very much, especially Badke's writing style. I think it is an esential text for anyone interested in accessing information that counts!

For ANYONE in college, this book is a must buy.

For ANYONE in college, this book is a must buy. I'm a returning student (after a long hiatus) and I wish I had this book when I was in school the first time. It takes a common sense and easy to read approach to step by step explain the writing process. It gives real world examples of how to research papers and explains the intricacies of researching for academic papers in databases versus just surfing the internet.

A fire laid waste to Dorchester in 1613 and changed this backwater town into the most Puritan community in 17th-century England. Underdown (history, Yale), a specialist in that period, reconstructs the life of "godly" Dorchester for a general audience. The first three chapters describe political and social structures, and Chapters 4 and 5 go on to relate how Pastor John White and his supporters struggled to reorder their town through institutional reform and moral discipline. The last three chapters trace Dorchester's involvement in English politics from the rumblings of civil dissent through civil war, revolution, and eventual loss of Puritan zeal. Knowledgeable readers in public or college libraries will find suitable parallels with modern U.S. and other societies.
